Travel Photography

This isn’t an exhaustive travel encyclopedia. It’s a companion for travelers who want to understand why a place matters, not just what to see.
From Academia to the Open Road
This is the story of how I went from teaching about travel to living it—and why Central and Eastern Europe became my life’s work.
After building careers in tourism consultancy and university lecturing, I reached a crossroads in the late 1990s. I’d spent years analyzing the industry, teaching others about destination management, studying traveler behavior from behind a desk. But something was missing.
So I made a choice that changed everything: I walked away from the lecture hall and stepped onto the road.
I began working as a professional tour director with some of the world’s most respected travel operators. For over two decades I’ve specialised in guiding travellers through Central and Eastern Europe a region whose complexity, resilience, and beauty never stop revealing new layers.
Why Central and Eastern Europe?
Because this is where history doesn’t just live in museums—it walks beside you on cobblestone streets.
From the grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the scars and triumphs of the Iron Curtain’s fall. From Renaissance masterpieces in Prague to the haunting beauty of communist-era architecture in Warsaw. These countries have shaped the continent in ways that are still unfolding, still being understood.
Career Milestones:
Every city here tells a story you won’t find anywhere else. And every time I return, I discover something new.
1990s: Tourism Consultant & University Lecturer.
Late 90s: Founded European Extra Tours Limited Supplying Tour Direction Services.
2000s–Present: Professional Tour Director (100+ Countries).
Specialization: Central & Eastern European History & Culture.
Beyond the Tours
When I’m not leading groups through Europe, I work with travel agents and industry professionals—delivering presentations, keynote talks, and promotional events. My goal is simple: help others design travel experiences that go deeper than the surface, that honor the places we visit and the stories they hold.
I’m also a passionate photographer. Over the years, I’ve captured thousands of images—quiet moments in Vienna’s cafés, golden light on Budapest’s bridges, the timeless rhythm of daily life in places most travelers never see. I hope to share some of my favorites with you here.
The Road Ahead
Even on holiday, I’m planning the next journey. And when I travel for myself, I still travel with a group—because the shared experience of discovery is what makes travel unforgettable. There’s something irreplaceable about standing in front of a medieval castle with someone seeing it for the first time, watching their face change as the story comes alive.
That’s why I do this work. Not to check off a list of destinations, but to witness—and help create—those moments when travel transforms us.
“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

What’s your travel philosophy?
I believe travel should be about connection, not just collecting passport stamps. The best journeys happen when you slow down, engage with local culture, understand historical context, and allow yourself to be surprised by what you discover. Authentic travel means being present—not just passing through.
Do you work with travel companies?
Yes. I work as a tour director for several leading European tour operators. The views and recommendations on this site are my personal perspectives based on extensive travel experience and do not represent the policies or positions of my employers. This site exists to educate travelers and share cultural insights, not to compete with tour companies. Any tour products, pricing, inclusions and customer service policies are set by the relevant operator.
